ARCHEAN VOLCANIC-ASSOCIATED MASSIVE SULPHIDE MODEL
(Excerpt from Ontario Geological Survey Open File Report 5945: Grade-Tonnage Deposit Models of Selected Ontario Mineral Deposit Types, 1996.)

This model corresponds to descriptive mineral deposit model A 2. in Rogers et al. (1995). The sample population of 124 deposits for this model consists of Archean-aged deposits from Ontario, Quebec, and the Northwest Territories.

The deposit model tonnages and metal grades display lognormal distributions. The median (50%) values for the model are:

1,275,000 tonnes; 1.11% Cu; 4.06 % Zn; 0% Pb; 37.05 g/t Ag; and 0.27 g/t Au. There are no significant correlation between the tonnage and any of the metal grades. The following significant correlations (r) exist between the metal grades; Cu and Zn: r = -0.2582 (significance level (sl): 0.0038); Cu and Pb: r = -0.2602 (sl: 0.0035); Cu and Ag: r = -0.2391 (sl: 0.0075); Cu and Au: r = 0.1936 (sl: 0.0312); Zn and Pb: r = 0.2919 (sl: 0.0010); Zn and Ag: r = 0.4541 (sl: 0.0000); and Pb and Ag: r = 0.7196 (sl:0.0000).

Comment: A zero content was assumed for all unreported values. This may have a particular relevance to the silver and gold models where low and/or unrecovered values may not have been reported in the reserve estimates. The median values should be considered as minimum median values.

Deposit Frequency Model

The Noranda District in Quebec was used as the type area. The deposits that comprise the model are: Ansil, Mobrun, Gallen, Corbet, Vauze, East Waite, Waite Amulet, Amulet A, Amulet Lower A, Amulet C, Amulet F, Norbec, Lake Dufault No. 1, Lake Dufault No. 2, Millenbach, Horne, Quemont, Delbridge, Deldona, Amulet 11, South Rusty Hill, Waite Dufault, and South Dufault. Deposits in the Noranda area but external to the assessed area include:

Magusi, New Insco, Inmont, and Aldermac.

Number of deposits = 23.

Area = 233 km sq.

Number of deposits/area = 0.099 deposit/km sq.; or 1 deposit/10.1 km sq.p
